Now I am the most extreme case of hypo because I do not have a working thyroid and must be on medication for the rest of my life. Getting back not running after 2 years of being sick, but getting the strength back is coming very slowly.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13006594333479849625noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3318674573303332537.post-10239545708212552082016-03-22T20:08:51.438-07:002016-03-22T20:08:51.438-07:00Donna I try to follow a low carb diet. I am curious about how you eat as a runner and hypothyroid. What works best for you and energy wise to continue to run.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17207158742947175733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3318674573303332537.post-90668329927688704472016-03-17T06:18:26.639-07:002016-03-17T06:18:26.639-07:00Yeah, I hate to admit to myself that I have been d...Yeah, I hate to admit to myself that I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, too. But I'm glad it's possible to lead a normal life, though, I'm feeling awful right now.
Anyway! In May of 2013 I ran the North Face Endurance Challenge 50k at Bear Mtn. and by July of that year I began developing symptoms of hypothyroidism. The fatigue, sleepiness, severe weight gain (60lb weight gain in 8 months!), cardiac issues, GI issues all occurred one right after another. I had a hard time getting a diagnosis since according to the few endocrinologists I went to said I was "in range" though on the high end. After about 35 pages worth of bloodwork done and no clear diagnosis, my Doctor finally came around to trying thyroid medication. Though we are still finding the right dosage, I have seen a vast improvement.

-MarzMarznoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3318674573303332537.post-33838263307511207152014-04-22T12:11:46.041-07:002014-04-22T12:11:46.041-07:00I used to run 3 x a week and had loads of energy, ...I used to run 3 x a week and had loads of energy, but I was having problems with work, I went running and felt like someone had pulled the plug out of me. I went to the doc which resulted in a underactive thyroid. I am on 25 mg and desperately want to get back to running, but never have the energy, is it possible to get back to normal, or am I going to be fat and lazy for the rest of my life? I suppose I have to keep up with blood tests and just get of my butt and try to run even if it's a little. I have gone from easily training hard 6/7 days a week to being able to train 2 days a week and feel like I've been hit by a train after. Started my meds 2 weeks ago so fingers crossed. Please, please could you write another post like this on how you train and if there is anything you have changed in your routine. Info on the web on super active people with hypothyroidism is pretty non existant.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3318674573303332537.post-88515344329319331632013-09-29T00:15:39.525-07:002013-09-29T00:15:39.525-07:00Thank you for post. The same thing happened to me the past February and I just found out my numbers are through the roof again:( Just finished my first Half Iron and suppose to be doing a 50 k in a couple weeks. Apparently coming close to off meds wasn't realistic as an endurance athlete.Heidinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3318674573303332537.post-90776224570449703182013-07-02T08:32:59.932-07:002013-07-02T08:32:59.932-07:00Thank you for writing.
