My First Barefoot Run

It's official. My first go-with-the-latest-trend barefoot run is now in the book. It was only 5 miles, with 3 on the beach and 2 on concrete. Yes, you read that correctly, concrete. All I'm going to say at this point is that I'm no "barefoot Ted" or vibram junkie, just a curious old school runner sniffing around the latest craze.

Since I just finished 5 minutes ago I'm going to have to wait to see how My feet feel tomorrow. Wait. This just in...my right big toe is feeling kind of raw.

Time for a beer.

My husband David is now kind of hardcore with vibrams and rarely runs in anything else, but he doesn't go completely barefoot on pavement for more than a couple of miles- he got blisters on the balls of his feet the first time he tried it, so now he sticks to his VFFs. Probably with gradual conditioning it would work ok though.

Glad you're having fun.

The thought of running barefoot makes me cringe. Can't wait to hear how you feel today. Peace

Hadn't heard of the connection between barefooting it and beer, I'll have to try that!

Hope your feet are doing well! I love running barefoot but will only do it on the beach because I'm afraid of glass. I love my Vibrams and they are the only things I road run with. It takes some getting used to but your feet get super strong from it as well as your calves (which will probably be sore today I would expect!)

Take care.

Well, its almost 24 hours and I'm not noticing any problems. The bottom of my feet felt like they were sunburned this morning, but not now. I'm still not sure why this is such the rage now.

I would be terrified of glass!! I did ONE barefoot (well I was wearing socks) run and had to stop after about ten minutes - too much crap on the ground :(

Anyone that enjoys jogging or running knows how important it is to have a pair of shoes that are comfortable. There are assortments of shoes available that runners can choose from. For those that are interested in purchasing a pair of shoes that are both comfortable and can be used frequently for fitness you should check out http://www.goodrunningshoesguide.com/asics-gel-kayano-15.
